A Monster List of Social Innovation Books, Blogs, Conferences, Funders

FacebookTweetLinkedIn

Since today is Halloween, I thought I’d offer a monster list of resources for nonprofit leaders, social entrepreneurs, philanthropists, board members and others involved in creating social change.

The following list comes from the Resources page of the Social Velocity web site. The page includes social innovation conferences, organizations, funders, blogs, books and other things that anyone involved in the social change space should be aware of. It could be a starting point or an ongoing exploration of what’s going on in the space.

Good list. FYI — I *Love* the Unreasonable Institute, but they’re not funders. Perhaps you should have a category for incubators / accelerators. If you do, please include my organization — the William James Foundation.

Either way, you might want to check out our list of conferences (www.williamjamesfoundation.org/conferences) and sustainable business plan competitions (www.williamjamesfoundation.org/competitions).

    Ian,

That’s a really good point. I struggled with the whole “funders” category, it’s really more of a funders and supporters and ecosystem builders category. And thanks for pointing me to your list of conferences and competitions. We’ll mine that for additions to our list. Thanks so much!

Don’t forget the very important work done by the academic research centers, such as the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE at Duke, http://www.CASEatDuke.org ), founded by pioneering social entrepreneurship thought leader Prof. Greg Dees, previously the co-founder of the Center for Social Innovation at Sanford and contributor to the launch of the Social Enterprise Initiative at Harvard. The Skoll Centre at Oxford has been a major player. Initiatives at Yale and Nothwestern (Kellogg) and Berkley (Haas) have also been around for a while now. In the past five years, centers have been launched at NYU, Babson, the University of Maryland, Tulane, and many others. For example, see the Ashoka U “Changemaker Campus Consortium” at http://ashokau.org/changemaker-campus/

Finally, consider adding the Social Impact Exchange national conference and community of interest, the largest annual conference focused on scaling social impact http://www.socialimpactexchange.org/
