So I did something scary this week. I deleted my Facebook and Twitter accounts. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time (years, honestly). But I was afraid. I was afraid that if I did, people wouldn’t be able to find me, I’d miss important conversations, I’d feel left out, that it would be a huge mistake.
But then I realized that every time I went to those platforms I left a piece of me behind. The spaces I found myself in on those platforms felt inauthentic, or anxious, or angry, or divisive. Honestly, it felt like scarcity writ large. This may not be your experience with these platforms, and I get that. I know many people who have found or created communities on Facebook or Twitter that really work for them. They feel connected and heard. That’s great.
But for me, it had simply become a burden.
At the same time, I have started finding real community in other places and spaces, including the free training I led last week. I was blown away by how many people signed up for the training and how engaged and excited everyone was to be there and talk about how we move from scarcity to abundance.
That experience of being surrounded by you all — amazing social change visionaries who are passionate about creating a better world, but are feeling the burdens of that very world — was transformative for me. It just cemented for me that what you focus on grows. And I no longer want to focus on spaces that don’t feel right anymore.
What I have learned over the last few years is that we each have the power to remove the hurdles in our own path. So I took my own medicine, and stepped into my power to overcome something that frightened me.
And it feels oh so liberating!
Now that I don’t feel the drag of Twitter and Facebook anymore, I’m going to devote more time and energy to the spaces and people who give me energy, inspire me and get me out of bed in the morning.
That’s where you all come in.
I’ve decided to do more free trainings, because they are so much fun for me, and people seem hungry for the content and the space to discuss the hurdles in the way of becoming the social change superheroes we came here to be.
So starting next month I’m going to be hosting monthly (or every other month, depending on my capacity and your interest) free trainings about moving from scarcity to abundance. I’m excited, and I hope you are too!
And I plan to create other opportunities for us to come together to recognize and scale those scary barriers in our path.
Because the world needs us powerful, dear social change leaders. Powerful beyond measure.
